Christmas Holiday Smoothie

It’s a Beautiful Day for a Christmas Holiday Smoothie

I love smoothies.  I have them practically everyday and love to experiment with different recipes.  Although this is not an official “Christmas recipe” it can certainly be enjoyed all year.

May I introduce you to:   “My” Christmas Holiday Smoothie: 1 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 cup whole cranberries

1 large banana

1-1/2 cups orange juice

3-4  tablespoons of honey (or your desired sweetness)

Blend,  puree’.   Makes approx. 5 full cups.   I prefer not using ice in my smoothies.

Since the weather was so nice,  a little balmy with a light breeze I just had to enjoy my smoothie outdoors in my happy place.  I wanted to make it relaxing and cozy.

I first brought out the faux fur pillows then gathered a few magazines.

But the hopeless romantic whispered in my ear and… oh dear……

…create a cozy bedroom outdoors ………..

..the lamp you see…  a vintage beauty….to surround yourself with what you love is the key…

Oh Yes, I stayed here all day without guilt nestled under the tree…….

What a Beautiful Day………….. for a Christmas Smoothie…don’t you agree?

Evening was calling……time to come indoors.  What a shame to end a day without worries or care

just when you feel as if you’re floating on air………..

Enjoy your day…….Make a Smoothie…..a Christmas Holiday Smoothie….

DIY Poinsettias and Tea for Two

My holiday decorating started earlier than planned. Could not resist after seeing so many beautiful holiday decorating ideas.

I decided to start out by accenting a holiday pillow (of course) with ribbons.  Last year I did bows on pillows shown here.  The idea of ribbon Poinsettias is from a YouTube channel “Dezine Fun”.    Wire ribbon is recommended.  I used ribbon that is 2-1/2″ wide, cutting 5 strips at 8″ long.

I tacked them on a holiday pillow.  But consider other possibilities to use in holiday decorating and gift wrapping.  Simple, cute, easy, fun. It was time for Tea.  The weather was so nice we decided to have tea outdoors on the patio.

‘Tis the Season….Tea for Two

The tea-pot warmer kept the tea steeping hot for hours. My favorite brand is Pure Leaf.  The white smaller tea-pot for hot water only in case we wanted to have another flavored tea.  Honey spoons, lemon and orange slices, finger snacks and peppermint sticks was all we needed for this little impromptu tea setting.

Love using hand towels when dining outdoors. The potpourri baby deer gave a scent of pine cones.

Cute pillow… right?

What I love most about our little Tea for Two on the patio… you would think the peace and quiet, good weather…etc, etc. but no, it’s the Lemon Honey Spoons  🙂  (too funny)  The package indicates for hot tea but I also use them in a cold refreshing glass of water,  juice, ice tea and cocktails when I want the taste of lemon and the sweetness of honey.

View their site for the large variety offered. And check out the holiday gifts:   http://www.melvillecandy.com/Honey-Spoons_c_8.html

I was lucky to find lemon honey and clover honey spoons at TJ Maxx for $3.99 per bag of 5.

Combined with other spoons and stirrers they make cute and fun budget friendly gifts for those who like to flavor their hot beverages.

……….’Tis the Season for goods things…..

Hope yours starts off with a fun DIY.  Thanks for stopping by

Favorite Buys for 2017- “Versatile” Decor Items

After reading a post published by Shelly of  ConfettiStyle.com “The 5 Most Versatile Decorative Accessories you can own”  It was so informative and could not agree more!

This year I tried to buy smart by curving my décor impulse shopping. My motto use to be “something comes in, something goes out” but even that has changed.  Which caused me to define what decorative items I can get the most out of.  Versatility is the key when using the same base items for seasonal and holiday décor with minimal cost to change-up the look.  A tall task for someone who loves to change and refresh décor items.  Why am I limiting my items?  Well for two reasons, downsizing and the limited storage space downsizing will present.

Here are my favorite investment items purchased this year 2017 that really cost me pennies. (Happy, happy, joy, joy) The cost compared to the versatility is priceless.  BTW: I love silver accents……

The Silver platter:  A Goodwill great find in April 2017 for $2.99!!  It had a few scratches on the flat plate but other than that it was in perfect condition. 17″ x 24″ .  I have used this platter/tray time and time again.   First appeared on “Seashell Wind Chime”   I love the fluted edge, and drop plate bed.

Now it’s used to hold our Fall Table centerpiece

Braemore Jamil Pillows:  Really???  Pillows on the list.  Yes indeed.  These velvet Leopard Print pillows coordinates with “any décor”. In June, I purchased 1 yard of fabric for $39.99 and made two pillows.  They have been in every room of the house any time I want a quick refresh.  First appeared in “Braemore Jamil Leopard Print…ohhh La La”   Two more are in the makings.

Hurricane Vase:   I’ve had one for a few years.  First appeared in “Fall Centerpiece“.   The filler ideas are endless; from decorative orbs to candy, soaps, beans, shells, fruit..etc, etc, etc.

Decided to purchase another one this year.   She’s a little smaller with a silver base. 8″ x 12″.  Cost: $12.99. – HomeGoods.  Was on my desk , now she’s sitting outside enjoying the sun:

Candle Holders:  What can I say:  I’m a collector/hoarder/ of candlesticks second to pillows.  Most are for specific vignettes that I don’t change.  But these beauties have been up, down, outside, inside and all around the house wherever and whenever I need a quick change.  First appeared in “Sweet Sensations”.   Goodwill – $7.00 for a set of two. 12″ and 10″ Tall. The second pair is mirror candleholders…The absolute best for table settings…I can peek at myself while eating to make sure my table etiquette is up to par. 🙂   Also great for small space decorating. Guest room bedside tables. Entry tables if there is no wall mirror. Bookshelves…oh the possibilities.   Burlington – $14.99 for the small 12″ and $16.99 for the larger 15″

Tier Server:  Formal, informal.  Elegance to Casual.  For any room of the house, I guarantee you can use a tier server tray.  This is the second tier server ever purchased. My first is copper shown here which sits (and will never be removed) on the bar counter, which I love.  But this baby is in my favorite metal Silver.  Overstock – $93.00 – 28″ tall.  I gladly paid. Well worth it for the quality.  And to think it coordinates with the fluted edge silver tray.  Oh I’ve got good-n-plenty plans for her!

Silver Bowl: Right now it is all dressed for Fall but oh the possibilities for Seasons and Holidays to come. Goodwill – $6.99  15″ diameter.

A Crystal Vase: I did not buy this vase this year, I’ve had it for years. A beautiful fresh flower vase is a must on the list.  I’d say three. a bud vase, a small and large. Ya never know when a surprise fresh-cut of gorgeous flowers may come your way.  Priceless 🙂

Yeah, I’m a silver gal. These pieces are so versatile and overall cost pennies.  Storage is not an issue because they will always be out.  Downsizing is no joke. My tinier house dreams will soon become a reality. And I want to be ready and waiting with key décor pieces.  I have never been this disciplined in my life!!!!!! (Proud Momma)  I’m anxious to see how I will continue to use these same pieces for holidays and seasons to come.  It will be interesting. Hope you stop back by and peek at the changes.

Braemore Jamil Leopard Print…..Ohhh La La

Friday’s Fabulous Fabrics !!

This post I’m sharing the beautiful fabric I have been dreaming of.

I read a post on a living room project by one of my favorite Interior Designers, Veronica of Casa Vilora Interiors .  Since, I could not stop thinking about the leopard pillows that were featured.  I love the entire room and the leopard pillows looked so dreamy they were calling my name.  Check out the beautiful textiles, the mix of colors and prints.  It’s just Divine.  I had to have those leopard pillows!  Click picture or here for her blog post.

Beautiful

Off to shopping I go to find this scrumptious leopard fabric.

Pillows and florals are the easiest way for me to refresh a space without breaking the bank. (To see an easy DIY flower arrangement click here).  However I did not know the proper fabric brand name or designer name to order the fabric.  Since time was on my side, literally for months I left it alone in my dreams and went on to other projects……

Until….one day …. I heard the angels singing…(I won’t bore you with details)

“Braemore Jamil Natural Velvet Leopard”  la la la

Finally…I was so excited I did the happy dance.

With all that excitement I only purchased 1 yard  😦  😦

A little pricey.  Ranging from $29.00 to $35.00 a yard.   Sold online at FabricMill.com, BarrasFabrics.com, DecorativeFabricsDirect.com, and eBay.com.   It’s 100% soft velvet cotton. Dry clean only. The pile is short with a soft smooth hand and the color/print is “Vibrant” to say the least.  I think it is well worth the price. Definitely pennies will be saved to buy more.  Great for upholstered chairs, ottomans, pillows, cushions, headboards.  One yard was ordered but I actually received 44.5″.  So glad for the extra because I was able to use every inch making 21″ pillows instead of 18″.

A super simple DIY pillow fabrication which makes super gorgeous pillows…It’s all about the fabric.

  1. I cut four 22″ squares of face fabric. For both sides front and back.
  2. For the lining I used white Premium Muslin
  3. Inserted an invisible zipper. If you don’t have an invisible zipper foot one can be purchased at most fabric shops for less than $5.
  4. After sewing the top and sides of the lining, I attached the lining to the pillow cover using the drop-in method. (much like lining a hand bag) Where the wrong sides of each fabric are together and the open end of the lining is sewn to the seam allowance of the zipper.   This makes a nice clean finish perfect for pillows with an invisible zipper.
  • $29.00 fabric
  • $5 for 2 invisible zippers (using coupon)
  • $5.99 for 1 yard of 90″premium white muslin for the lining (coupon used. Regular price is $9.99 a yard)
  • Total $39.99
  • Down pillow inserts I already had

Online 1 – 20″ pillow cover for $40.00…VS … 2 – 21″ pillow covers for $39.99.

Time for another happy dance:   I was quite pleased.

I’m considering these pillows as an investment because they coordinate with any color or print year round.  I can literally use them in any room whenever I need a quick décor refresh.

Oh you bet I’ll team these babies up with bright floral prints, stripes and solids.

I see an upholstered stool coming soon.  Here are a few pictures that definitely gives inspiration for upcoming Fall projects….What I love most about leopard prints, especially high-end fabric as this one, is the versatility.  It’s timeless but you either love it or not so much.

Check out my Pinterest Board here to see other leopard and animal print décor items for your home.

Now for those coordinating prints, off to shopping I go….see ya soon with more floral prints

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a Fun and Safe Happy 4th!!

Boho Pillow

Is it time to refresh your pillows for Summer?  Sometimes taking an old pillow you love and dressing it up a bit is all you need.  Plus it’s fun to see how creative you can be.

I saw this fun pom-pom trim at Hobby Lobby, and thought how cute it would be to accent a bohemian pillow I made a while back. I was not quite sure how I was going to put it all together but I loved the colors.

The large red pillow is what I had in mind to refresh.  This was our Bohemian inspired guest room in 2013.

I have always loved this fabric print by Richloom, called Cornwall Cadmium.

Before I get into the how… let me just say I was really feeling funky the day I re-made/refreshed this pillow.

Sometimes we just have bad days and this was one for me. I took my frown and turned it around into the energy of an artist.  I blasted the music, put on my baret and started the madness.  🙂   Let’s start the music……..

I whirled the pillow cover in the air and ripped opened all sides!

Squirted droplets of Gem Tac all over it!

Aimed and threw on the rhinestones!

Slapped and Splattered  strokes of silver glitter!

Then twirled the fabric in the air and flung it over the easel and waited for the masterpiece to dry!  Whew!  Some days we just have to throw something!!

By then I was starting to look and be myself again, the calm was settling in …hmmm, hmmmm, hmmm

and creative thoughts began to blossom. 🙂

I had extra scraps leftover from the Boho Curtains (shown above).  I cut strips for side bands, but they still need something to connect to the center.  I attached a 1-1/2″ inset strip to the band and outlined it with the yellow leather studded trim.  The pom-pom trim and bands were then sewn to the pillow sides.

Let’s keep this creative groove going…

Made flange bands for the top and bottom with contrast corner squares. And attached batting to the flange.

Applied red cord piping all around.  The back is solid red with a hidden velcro closure.  Measures 32″ x 22.” Using the same design it can be made any size you wish by simply framing an existing pillow with additional fabric and trims.

Next were the tassels. Made with multi color and red sparkle yarn, crystal beads and the yellow trim.

The tassels measure 10″ long and 280 strands each.

 The Bohemian Pillow Refreshed!

A few days past and I decided to relax under the tree.

This art print by Jane Evershed called “I would like my bed to be outside under a tree”  Summed up how I was feeling.

Yup, some days you just have to throw something then take a deep breath and relax……..Boho Style!
