Favorite Buys for 2017- “Versatile” Decor Items

After reading a post published by Shelly of  ConfettiStyle.com “The 5 Most Versatile Decorative Accessories you can own”  It was so informative and could not agree more!

This year I tried to buy smart by curving my décor impulse shopping. My motto use to be “something comes in, something goes out” but even that has changed.  Which caused me to define what decorative items I can get the most out of.  Versatility is the key when using the same base items for seasonal and holiday décor with minimal cost to change-up the look.  A tall task for someone who loves to change and refresh décor items.  Why am I limiting my items?  Well for two reasons, downsizing and the limited storage space downsizing will present.

Here are my favorite investment items purchased this year 2017 that really cost me pennies. (Happy, happy, joy, joy) The cost compared to the versatility is priceless.  BTW: I love silver accents……

The Silver platter:  A Goodwill great find in April 2017 for $2.99!!  It had a few scratches on the flat plate but other than that it was in perfect condition. 17″ x 24″ .  I have used this platter/tray time and time again.   First appeared on “Seashell Wind Chime”   I love the fluted edge, and drop plate bed.

Now it’s used to hold our Fall Table centerpiece

Braemore Jamil Pillows:  Really???  Pillows on the list.  Yes indeed.  These velvet Leopard Print pillows coordinates with “any décor”. In June, I purchased 1 yard of fabric for $39.99 and made two pillows.  They have been in every room of the house any time I want a quick refresh.  First appeared in “Braemore Jamil Leopard Print…ohhh La La”   Two more are in the makings.

Hurricane Vase:   I’ve had one for a few years.  First appeared in “Fall Centerpiece“.   The filler ideas are endless; from decorative orbs to candy, soaps, beans, shells, fruit..etc, etc, etc.

Decided to purchase another one this year.   She’s a little smaller with a silver base. 8″ x 12″.  Cost: $12.99. – HomeGoods.  Was on my desk , now she’s sitting outside enjoying the sun:

Candle Holders:  What can I say:  I’m a collector/hoarder/ of candlesticks second to pillows.  Most are for specific vignettes that I don’t change.  But these beauties have been up, down, outside, inside and all around the house wherever and whenever I need a quick change.  First appeared in “Sweet Sensations”.   Goodwill – $7.00 for a set of two. 12″ and 10″ Tall. The second pair is mirror candleholders…The absolute best for table settings…I can peek at myself while eating to make sure my table etiquette is up to par. 🙂   Also great for small space decorating. Guest room bedside tables. Entry tables if there is no wall mirror. Bookshelves…oh the possibilities.   Burlington – $14.99 for the small 12″ and $16.99 for the larger 15″

Tier Server:  Formal, informal.  Elegance to Casual.  For any room of the house, I guarantee you can use a tier server tray.  This is the second tier server ever purchased. My first is copper shown here which sits (and will never be removed) on the bar counter, which I love.  But this baby is in my favorite metal Silver.  Overstock – $93.00 – 28″ tall.  I gladly paid. Well worth it for the quality.  And to think it coordinates with the fluted edge silver tray.  Oh I’ve got good-n-plenty plans for her!

Silver Bowl: Right now it is all dressed for Fall but oh the possibilities for Seasons and Holidays to come. Goodwill – $6.99  15″ diameter.

A Crystal Vase: I did not buy this vase this year, I’ve had it for years. A beautiful fresh flower vase is a must on the list.  I’d say three. a bud vase, a small and large. Ya never know when a surprise fresh-cut of gorgeous flowers may come your way.  Priceless 🙂

Yeah, I’m a silver gal. These pieces are so versatile and overall cost pennies.  Storage is not an issue because they will always be out.  Downsizing is no joke. My tinier house dreams will soon become a reality. And I want to be ready and waiting with key décor pieces.  I have never been this disciplined in my life!!!!!! (Proud Momma)  I’m anxious to see how I will continue to use these same pieces for holidays and seasons to come.  It will be interesting. Hope you stop back by and peek at the changes.

Thanks for stopping by.  Enjoy your week-end!

A GoodWill Great Find

I went to GoodWill to donate a few items to make room in the garage for an elliptical trainer I want, but not really. 🙂 I rather continue to walk with nature, which I love butttt there has been a few bear sightings and that makes me scared to death!!  AnyHey….while there I had a look-see.  On the bottom shelf at the end of the aisle silver caught my eye.

Looky… Looky…  The Wilton Company RWP   15″ diameter bowl.   $6.99Yup, she came home with me, cleaned her up and now I can put anything in her I please.  She will stay on my coffee table ’til death do us part.

Filled her up for Fall: A beautiful start to a long decorating journey ahead. 🙂

Bar Cart Styling Afrocentric Safari

Hello October!

One of my favorite months.  Although it’s still hurricane season until November 30, the weather in Florida starts to cool a bit.   It’s the perfect time to give the patio a refresh especially after Hurricane Harvey.  I’ll start with the bar cart by giving it an Afrocentric Safari vibe for Autumn.  For those who know me….Ya’know  how I love Ethnic print and Animal print fabrics. 🙂

Using this  Kente African Fabric Print purchased from http://www.FWDfabrics.com I made a candle wrap, decorative rods, cocktail napkins, bar towel and a wine tie.

African Print Fabrics

Purchased two beautifully embellished animal statues from Ross

And using items that we had:

With just a few simple items it came together nicely.

Beadable custom appetizer sticks from KarenThomas.us

A natural, no-nonsense twig and leaf wreath with leopard ribbon as the wall accent

A tad different from the traditional Fall decorations but I’ll add a few more falling leaves :-)…..Thanks for stopping by.

It Takes a Village

First I’d like to say:  My heart and donations goes out to all who has suffered, lost and recovering from the horrible path and destruction that Hurricane Harvey and Irma brought us.  We had no major damage to our home (Thank God) but outdoor clean up was a wake-up call to what could have been.  We are truly grateful. Only by Grace.

Happy Fall!  Thanks for taking a few moments to visit and read my chit-chat.

Well I said I was not going to do any Fall decorating because I did not want Summer to end.   But…. To make a long story short, I was searching for a particular Christmas fabric print on Ebay when this print popped up on the sidebar entitled

“It Takes a Village” depicting a Tribal African Village with children and women:  And the coordinating fabric print of clay pottery:

What can I say but I’m weak people! I thought I was done when I purchased a beautiful beaded pumpkin pillow from Marshalls and then I did a Fall Inspired tier tray. on the bar.

But nooooo,  the colors of this fabric print just spoke Fall Harvest to me. I had to get at least one yard if only to make napkins!!

A Fall Harvest tablescape was now in the making!!

See my video on YouTube of the final outcome.

I will probable do more videos going forward.

So glad I caved…loving my napkins. :-).  Thanks again for stopping by. Enjoy your Fall tablescaping and decorating.

Fall Basket Décor and Collections

Hey there.  Happy Monday!

I have a few questions for you.  How many collections do you have?  Do you know how many items are in each of your collections?  Are your collections solely decorative or do they serve a function, a purpose?  Gotcha thinking?  Well I had to stop and ask myself the same questions in the midst of shopping for yet another basket.  I love baskets and have a collection of them.  Each basket serves a function on its own.  None are used for multi purposes which means the basket collection keeps growing because I seldom revisit their purpose.

I asked myself  if  I already had a basket that could be use for a Fall arrangement.  Long story short…..I did not surrender to the urge to buy, I came home empty-handed.  I went thru my home,  pulled out every basket to see what if any provisions could be made.  After getting totally frustrated trying to brainstorm which baskets I would combine and which one to select for a Fall arrangement, I gave up and called that very same store to ask the sales person to put that very same basket I was considering on hold because I was on my way to purchase it.  Now my other baskets are back where they started and will continue with their intended purpose.  Sometimes ya just gotta leave things as they are.  Too funny!  Haven’t we all been there!

The basket that caused me to question my collection and buying practice:  Kirklands Woven Crescent Basket  woven-crescent-basketFirst I must say, I love this basket.  Very easy to carry and makes a nice visual accent different from other round, drum or square-shaped baskets.  So far I have used it for many things.  This will be thee one basket to keep without a designated purpose.

I went to a few stores during their Fall sale and loaded up on items.  Joann’s, Hobby Lobby and Michaels

Before I did the Fall arrangement which this basket was intended for, I wanted to give the cabana/patio bath a little seasonal décor.  I filled the basket with Fall color bath towels and made a small swag to tie on the side of the handle.

A Fall Bath Towel Basket:  Something simple but gave a neutral bathroom a pop of seasonal colors   0083fallguesttowelbasket

Now with an empty basket I continued on to do the Fall arrangement.  My inspiration came from seeing these beautifully designed basketsinspirationfallviapinterestUsing the rest of the items, foam, moss and glue gun the basket is now complete0102fallcrescentbasket   I placed it on the floor in the Morning/Sun Room0111fallcrescentbasketBut on the console table in front of the window and with my Fox throw for cozy reading sets a welcoming ambiance for Fall.   0125fallcrescentbasketGiving two of the flowers a little bling to coordinate with the burlap ribbon I used the flat back appliques purchased from TotallyDazzled.com.  I used these appliques to also create candle rings for Christmas shown here.     0103flatbackcrystalappliques

This completes my Fall Décor for this year.  By establishing what designers call “seasonal décor hot spots”

  1. The dining room centerpiece and sideboard accents shown here9972fallcenterpiece2016
  2. The breakfast table centerpiece shown here 1a-fallcenterpiecebreakfasttable32015
  3. The morning/sun room console table  0125fallcrescentbasket
  4. The front of the house.  Either a flower-pot arrangement or wreaths     0134fallplanter
  5. The Garden bed in the back yard with just a seasonal flower or two  0069fallfountain

I was able to stay on target and focus without going overboard.  It’s very easy to get overwhelmed with so many beautiful things to choose from to decorate your home.   These five areas will make it possible to add nice small touches to welcome each season and holiday without disrupting the overall décor of my home.  Do you have seasonal décor hot spots?   Many thanks go to AtHomeWithNikki  on YouTube  with tips on Seasonal Décor Organization.

Fall Parrot-dise

Hi there!  Hope you are enjoying the last days of summer.  We’re ready for the seasonal change.

I am in love with the beautiful colors of Fall Foliage! fiery-fall-foliage

Each Fall Season I try to bring small touches of these beautiful colors in our home.  Nothing too elaborate but enough to welcome the new season.  Last year I did a small DIY centerpiece for our breakfast table and brought it out again this year, but used Autumn fillers instead of the candle here from last year.  fallcenterpiecebreakfasttable2015

This year I decided to bring a little Fall décor into the Dining Room.

The Dining Room is the first room your attention goes to as you enter our home.  The hot spot of course is the table centerpiece. I did a small arrangement using the same floral stems from years past shown here and here.  Nothing that looked really special but I love the fall colors without using flowers, pumpkins…etc…  9946FallCenterpieceTo add drama and spice, I used my Vintage Dick Hsiao Parrot Candle Holders.dickhsiaocandleholders  I love Parrots,  McCaws which are my favorites as well as butterflies.  These are not the typical Fall décor items but I fell in love with their green, bronze and golden hues which worked well with the centerpiece.

To finish the setting I used a beaded table runner from Pier1 Imports. Beadedtablerunnerfalltablerunner2016This runner will take me right into the Christmas Holiday season.

And my Fall Parrot-dise Centerpiece is done.      9985fallcenterpiece2016Adding two more Parrot candle holders and a small arrangement on the sideboard completes the dining room setting for Fall.

I painted their beaks gold and gave them sparkling Swarovski Crystal eyes. 9973fallparrotcandleholders

 This was fun.     Cheers to a Fall… Parrot-dise.    9981fallcenterpiece2016
