Christmas Holiday Smoothie

It’s a Beautiful Day for a Christmas Holiday Smoothie

I love smoothies.  I have them practically everyday and love to experiment with different recipes.  Although this is not an official “Christmas recipe” it can certainly be enjoyed all year.

May I introduce you to:   “My” Christmas Holiday Smoothie: 1 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 cup whole cranberries

1 large banana

1-1/2 cups orange juice

3-4  tablespoons of honey (or your desired sweetness)

Blend,  puree’.   Makes approx. 5 full cups.   I prefer not using ice in my smoothies.

Since the weather was so nice,  a little balmy with a light breeze I just had to enjoy my smoothie outdoors in my happy place.  I wanted to make it relaxing and cozy.

I first brought out the faux fur pillows then gathered a few magazines.

But the hopeless romantic whispered in my ear and… oh dear……

…create a cozy bedroom outdoors ………..

..the lamp you see…  a vintage beauty….to surround yourself with what you love is the key…

Oh Yes, I stayed here all day without guilt nestled under the tree…….

What a Beautiful Day………….. for a Christmas Smoothie…don’t you agree?

Evening was calling……time to come indoors.  What a shame to end a day without worries or care

just when you feel as if you’re floating on air………..

Enjoy your day…….Make a Smoothie…..a Christmas Holiday Smoothie….

Petal Taffeta goes Shabby Chic

Hi there, I hope you had a wonderful week-end.  Yesterday, Sunday, (my favorite day of the week) was a bright, sunny beautiful day.    Sunnywindow

It turned out to be a Do nothing, Snuggle up, Sleep In, Stay in bed, kind of morning.  BreafastinbedBut I finally decided to come out from hiding and make the bed.

Making the bed each morning is some what of a ritual for me something I am adamant about.  A comfortable, well dressed bed is where I start my day and end my day, which is utterly important to my psyche.

This Spring and Summer I wanted new bed linens in a Shabby Chic style in hues of white with lots of texture in fabric contents of Cotton, Silk, Taffeta, Faux Fur and Sequin Satin.

PetaltaffetaEuros   I love using all white coverlets, duvets and bed skirts because I can change the pillows out to colorful prints when ever it suits me as long as they coordinate with the draperies.  Plus white linens coordinates with any style.

I have two sets of Euro pillows. Faux Fur and Taffeta.

The Taffeta petal die-cuts Euros are the most playful.  Actually this fabric is special occasion dress fabric. But for added weight I used a cotton lining for the front and a soft white velvet unlined for the back.PetalTaffetaPillows

backpetaleuro  Working with this fabric was easy but careful attention was important not to cut into or damage the die-cut petals.   Stitching Taffeta and Velvet together I was not able to press the seams, only using steam and finger pressing.  For the pillow closure I used 1/2″wide velcro. Which was the easiest.  (For a FYI tutorial on cutting Die-Cut Taffeta see below).

Overall I’m please with my Spring and Summer Shabby Chic bedding.  Hubby likes it and I think the doggies like it too.

Quick tip on die-cut taffeta:

Vanity Chair Trash to Treasure

Early one morning  just before sunrise my husband was out walking the dogs with his LED cap light on.  As he passes a home, in the driveway he spots a torn/broken upholstered vanity chair left for trash pickup.  He decided to give it a second look. “Hmmm”, he thinks, “this looks like solid wood in pretty good condition,  I know my wife could probably do something with this”!  So with both dogs on leashes in one hand,  and a vanity chair in the other hand, he walks at least a mile back home.

I must say I was very surprised by this gesture because my hubby is not a bargain hunter by any means.  Me on the other hand…. I’ll shop hours to save a dollar.  Although I was not in the market for a new vanity stool,  I was most appreciative and took on the challenge of putting her back together.

After all the upholstery and foam was completely removed and stripped down to the wood: VanitystoolbeforeHubby fixed the broken leg, sand and stained the wood base and legs: vanitywoodstainedI purchased foam for the seat cushion and back; seatcushion

For the cover I wanted fur.  Purchased 1 yard of  Winter White Luxury Faux Fur from    I am so pleased with this faux fur.  No shedding, long pile and supper soft.

A special thanks to Kathy from for referring me to Stylish Fabric.  FauxFurI wanted to make the cushion softer, to sink into when I sit.   So I placed a high density feather down pillow on top of the foam cushion, then covered and attached the faux fur.  I love how it turned out. Super soft yet sturdy.   I’m not one that likes to do upholstery projects,  but this was a simple project using an electric staple gun.  One other thing I added was this lovely tie back tassel, I enhanced it with a strand of crystal round beads and then attached it between the seat cushion and the back.  9VanityStool

TasselonvanitystoolFor a total of $54.00 for a swivel fur vanity stool with a feather down seat, is not such a bad deal.  I may paint the legs a different color. Don’t know yet, I’ll have to live with it for a few more days to decide. Here is the back view:8940Vanitystoolback

From trash to treasure.  Thanks to hubbyVanityStoolBeforeAfter ……. I’m sitting pretty!

Soft and Cozy Faux Fur

Courtesy of Pinterest

Mr. snowman must have made it down to FL. and brought some of the cold weather with him.  🙂  Although it’s Florida it can get a bit too chilly for me.   So it’s time to bring out the blankets!!  Can you believe we only have one blanket that actually fits our bed!!! AfghanFor our wedding gift 30yrs ago my Mom made us this oversized king afghan.  I love it and bring it out during the cold months. It looks just as beautiful today as it did the day we received it.  But this year I wanted a little more warmth!   Thank God for the inventors, designers and creators of warm, soft and cozy faux fur fabrics!  Looking for one large enough 90″ x 120″ was waaaayyyy out of my budget.  And the faux fur throws I see in the stores  were just not big enough…..hmmm……JoAnns was having a sale!!!! YAY!

Silver fox faux fur $34.99 on sale at 50% off for $17.50 a yard

In order to stay in my budget, I was able to get 3 yards of the softest, high-loft-pile faux fur they had. This fabric was actually 66″wide!

See my hand print. It’s sooooo soft!

and 3 yards of a soft and cozy fabric (not fleece).

Seriously folks this was the simplest thing I have ever sewn.

After cutting the edges straight on the wrong side of the faux fur. The selvage edge was straight. The cut edge needed to be straightened.  I put rights sides together, faux fur and the soft and cozy then sewed all 4 side seams.  Leaving approx. 20″ open on one side to turn.  Hand sewed the opening closed. Popped it in the washer and dryer. (hint: drying  a high loft fabric I recommend drying with 2 tennis balls and a bonce dryer sheet. It maintains the soft pile and loft, I do this with my down comforter too).  Total cost: $80.00 within my $100 budget. IMG_3047FFB

Two fabrics, four seams!  The finished size was 64″ by 106″. Not quite the size I wanted (90 x 120) but perfect for our bed with a nice side drop.  My bedding is ready for the cold. Between the jersey sheets, afghan, down comforter and faux fur bed throw….OMG… I feel the hot flash coming… Staying warm…I guess that’s why we live in Florida.  Stay warm my friends…don’t let that cold bug catch you. Stay warm, soft and cozy with a little faux fur.

Until next time, If you can’t find it within your budget….sew and create it,  and enjoy loving your home! 🙂 see ya!
